Brighten Up

When it comes to spring and makeup, all we can think about are adding brighter pops of color into our beauty routines.

Luckily for us, these bold beauty statements are right on-trend for the spring 2013 season. While you don’t want to go too crazy with heavy makeup as the weather warms up, choosing one feature to focus on is always a safe bet, no matter what the season.

For spring, bold lips are a tried-and-true look, and this season bright pink and fuchsia hues are a fun way to mix things up. Contrary to many people’s beliefs, vivid pinks actually tend to be the most forgiving of colors with various skin tones. A great tip is to find a formula that you can layer (like the NARS Satin Lip Pencil in Yu that I used above) and add on your color until you’re at a shade that you feel comfortable with. To get the product to last on your lips all day, apply it on your lips and then blot with a tissue. Then, apply a touch of translucent powder and one more coat of the color. Press lips together and you’ll have long-lasting fuchsia lips!

If you’d rather play up your eyes for spring, try out a colored liner instead. Fun shades of eyeliner were spotted on the runways for spring in bright hues like blue, teal and green, such as MAC’s Pro Longwear Eye Liner in Mountain Air that I tried out above. For the work day, I’d advise only lining your top lash line or lower lash line with the colored liner, but when going out at night play the color up a bit and go for an exaggerated cat eye or line all the way around your eye. These two looks are easy to pull off and will instantly brighten up your spring wardrobe!
