Rihanna Concert – May 4th

Pop super-star Rihanna continues her Diamonds World Tour with a performance at Brooklyn’s new Barclays Center. The always style adventurous Rihanna pulls out all the sequined-stops and sports some awe-inspiring stage outfits which include designs by Riccardo Tisci for Givenchy and costume designer Adam Selman. Met Ball – May 6th

The crème de la crème of the fashion world and art society congregate at the illustrious Metropolitan Museum to celebrate the annual opening of the Costume Institute’s latest exhibit. This year, the always hotly anticipated exhibition will explore the underground punk culture’s influence upon fashion. “Punk: Chaos to Couture” will include works by designers as rebellious as their inspiration including Alexander McQueen, Vivienne Westwood, and Azzedine Alaïa.

The Great Gatsby Opens – May 10th

Hold onto your feathered headpiece, the hotly anticipated The Great Gatsby finally opens in theaters. Starring Leonard DiCaprio as nouveau riche bachelor Jay Gatsby and Carey Mulligan as the flighty Daisy Buchanan, this Baz Luhrman production is sure to whirl you into the fantastical world of the roaring 20s soirées and high society  immortalized by F. Scott Fitzgerald.

Frieze New York – May 10th – May 13th

For a second year, the international contemporary art show Frieze New York returns to Randall’s Island Park in Manhattan. One of the most talked-about installations is by artist Paul McCarthy-- notorious for his tongue-in-cheek sculptures—who is set to unveil his latest piece: an 80-foot-high inflatable “balloon dog.”
