The Metropolitan Opera’s 2015 Summer HD Festival:August 29 – September 7 Move aside Fashion Week, there is a new event taking over Lincoln Center Plaza. The Metropolitan Opera will be laying out 3,100 seats for a series of 10 free outdoor screenings of the company’s most popular performances including Carmen, Don Giovanni, and Aida. Kicking off the screenings is West Side Story, the 1961 Academy Award winning musical adaptation of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. Seats are on a first-come, first served basis, so roll up early to guarantee your spot—those 3,100 seats will fill up faster than you can say Bravo!

Photoville Exhibition:September 10 – 20 Forget austere gallery spaces and stuffy museums. Photoville offers up a new way for you to interact and view art. Step inside a shipping container where photographs are hung with magnets and presented without a frame. This unconventional experience is designed to bring you closer to the art and cultivate a warm and communal environment. And to that point, the expo’s food and beer garden encourages visitors to linger and relax.

Wine Riot:September 18 – 19 Sip on a crisp New Zealand Pinot Gris and sniff a robust Argentinian Mendoza Malbec at this global tasting. Wine Riot boasts more than 250 varieties of wines from all over the world—all available for you to swirl and savor. With so many spirits to sample, the Wine Riot app helps you keep track of your favorite vineyards and blends.

Queens County Fair:September 19 – 20 Only 20 miles outside of Manhattan, the charming and quaint Queens County Fair feels worlds away. Stroll about the pastoral grounds—preferably corn dog or sugar-dusted zeppole in hand—to check out the Irish step dancers and blue-ribbon competitions. Fans of farm-to-table fare can pick up a few culinary tips from a colonial cooking demonstration. Or down some Bavarian beer (aka liquid courage) and test your navigational cunning in the elaborate three-acre corn maze.

Rolex Central Park Horse Show:September 23 – 27 File into the converted Central Park skating rink for this impressive sporting event. Watch dressage competitions in which horse and rider must deftly perform intricate sequential movements like 360-degree pirouettes and diagonal half-passes. Other events include a thrilling grand prix show-jumping competition and a competitive polo match.
