Meet Annie of Stylish Petite

“I’m 4 feet, 11.75 inches but I round up to five feet,” divulges Annie, the blogger behind Stylish Petite.

This little white lie is so indicative of Annie’s personal style: playfully endearing and a little cheeky.

Annie has a keen talent for balancing out cute details—she’ll take sweet ballet flats, bows, a sequin-trimmed blouse or a fuzzy cowl-neck sweater and mix it with sharp basics to keep any look from verging on adorable. The result is looks that are sweet with a quirky flair and, most importantly, wholly her own. Her uniqueness shines through her unexpected pairings: an airy tutu skirt with a modest turtleneck; a polka dot blouse with a preppy navy blazer; or a full-tilt-sparkly dress with a menswear-inspired trench.

This cheery and feminine style translates to her home decor too. Annie has made #MirrorMoments a trademark of her blog, snapping photos of herself in her iconic gilt-framed mirror. In the background are sigh-worthy decorative pieces: a shaggy diamond-print rug, a striped lounge chair and a delicate bookcase of quirky knickknacks including a novelty-sized perfume bottle.

We caught up with Annie to discuss her style icons, favorite wardrobe finds, and how her petite figure inspires her to get clever with her styling!

When did you start your blog?

I actually started back in 2010 and discovered that it was a great way to de-stress. My husband and I were running an extremely demanding company that came with a lot of stress and I found that blogging was a constructive outlet that also provided me with a way to follow my passion.

What’s the story behind its name?

The story behind Stylish Petite began with my height. Being just under five feet tall and trying to find clothes to flatter my frame has always been a challenge—not to mention finding stylish options that fit. I wasn't able to locate any helpful resources for petite women, so I started blogging about the outfits I was putting together for work and it snowballed from there.

How would you describe your personal style?

Classic and very feminine.  Less is more to me and I like to curate simple but stylish looks that remain relevant over time.

Who are your style icons?

I really gravitate toward women who have been at the helm of fashion brands, such as Coco Chanel, Tory Burch, Kate Spade and Doris Fisher. I've built successful businesses from the ground up and know how much energy, time and resources were invested to make that happen. To see these ladies become captains of the fashion industry, creating long-lasting brands, is a huge undertaking and I respect them for it tremendously.

Do you have a real-life style icon?

My sister. We are similar styles and we are the same size, so it's fun to share deals and finds with each other. I remember my sister always kicking her outfits up to another level simply by incorporating one or two classic items—a great pair of pumps or a stylish purse can do wonders to even the most basic outfit.

What shoe or piece of clothing in your closet will you never throw away?

My Chanel classic handbags and Chanel brooches.  I love how simple, clean and classic they are and how they can be used to instantly upgrade nearly any outfit I put together.

What fashion item best personifies you?

I would say it's really more patterns than it is one item. I am pretty much obsessed with stripes and polka dots and you will typically find me wearing one of these patterns (if not both) throughout the year.

Fast and Furious Fashion QuizStyle advice to your 18 year-old self?

Buy fewer items and stick to classic pieces as much as possible.

Last song you sang in the shower?

Happy by Pharrell Williams.

Last time you laughed until you cried?

Pretty much every time I text/talk to my sister.

Favorite cocktail?

I don't drink alcohol but I do love a good virgin piña colada!

Favorite book to give as a gift?

Napoleon Hill's Think and Grow Rich or Rhonda Byrne's The Secret. They are both incredibly powerful books that teach you the importance of positive thinking to achieve your dreams.

Why did you choose the Vince Camuto Phillie Boots?

I chose them because they are the perfect color and the richness and high quality of the leather drew me in at first sight! I will wear these throughout winter with tons of different outfits. They look great with skinny jeans, skirts and leggings; they pretty much go with everything which is why I love them! These boots will most definitely be on repeat for many months to come!
