A marble table, topped with a buttery croissant and the latest Vogue.
An immaculately arranged shelf of art books.
A closet filled floor to ceiling with high heels, immaculately organized in rainbow order.
As you scroll through your Instagram feed, it certainly seems that bloggers lead a charmed life: An endless series of enviable meetings with cult brands, covetable fashion launches and avocado toast lunches at the latest It-bistro.
But that’s just half of the reality. There is an incredible—and for some readers, unexpected—amount of work that bloggers dedicate to building their brand. The less glamorous side isn’t nearly as much fun to follow: exhausting early mornings of schmoozing (where looking fabulous is pretty much mandatory), late nights uploading posts to WordPress and chipping away at a growing inbox. Not to mention the weekend hours logged just photographing outfits.
For Wit & Whimsy blogger Meghan Donovan, however, it’s a true labor of love. For the past nine years, she has balanced her full-time job at a marketing agency with her second full-time job—dutifully uploading shots of her daily outfits and beauty finds to the blog.
Before reporting to her corporate office, Donovan rises early to snap her daily ensembles. Given her dual roles, every outfit she creates has to work twice as hard to be work-appropriate and inspirational for her readers. As a solution, Donovan fills her core wardrobe with timeless staples: white eyelet shift dresses, black midi-skirts and tweed jackets. And to remain true to her blog name, she adds an element of whimsy to each look, in the form of stacked spiked bangles or a bold magenta lipstick.
So why does she do it? “I can’t imagine what my life would be like without this little blog!” We caught up with Donovan to find out her style secret weapons and the eye cream she’s constantly re-ordering.
How would you describe your personal style?
Feminine and classic. I love taking pieces with staying power and mixing them with more on-trend items. For example, a midi skirt with a crop top. Or a chambray button up tied over a white shift dress.
Who are your style icons?
Since high school, I have loved Audrey Hepburn for making simplicity look so good. Today, my style icons include Olivia Palermo—we share a love for wearing stilettos with everything from boyfriend jeans to dresses—Emma Stone for making bolder red carpet choices, and I think Diane Kruger can do no wrong.
What are your top beauty products?
1. Make dry shampoo your best friend. Drybar's Detox Dry Shampoo is my favorite.
3. Wash your face with a Clarisonic at night—so much better than using your hands! The sonic cleansing brush delivers more than 300 movements per second to your skin that gently (and I mean gently, it’s so soft and smooth!) and effectively loosens dirt and oil to cleanse your pores.
4. I like to apply Crest 3D White Whitestrips to brighten my smile.
5. I swear by Clarins Eye Revive Beauty Flash eye cream every morning to get rid of puffiness.
What is the best style advice you’ve ever received?
Dress for your body type, not for every trend. Embrace what looks good on you instead of just trying to wear what everyone else is. You'll feel more confident and exhibit a level of comfort with yourself and your style.

I still love Instagram but have a lot of fun on Snapchat showing more of "real" life. You can follow me @meghandono on both.
Why did you choose the Vince Camuto Riley Tote?
Every girl needs a great reliable black bag. I love the texture on the Riley, and that gold hardware looks so luxe. It will pair well with so many things, and can be carried through many seasons. It’s also the perfect size for travel—not too big and not too small. I've been carrying it non-stop!
