Meet Christina DeFilippo of Oh So Glam

When you’re in a certain profession, you come to anticipate follow-up questions after being introduced to a new acquaintance at a cocktail party:

“Oh, you’re a doctor? Well, let me get your medical opinion: Is this normal?”

“You work with computers, don’t you? How do I sync my email on my phone?”

And for anyone in the fashion sector: “Wow, that’s cool! So, what should I buy this season?”

Of course, it’s flattering to be viewed as an expert in your field, but sometimes advice requires more than a two-sentence reply.

DeFilippo’s work as a social media strategist at a marketing agency, whose fashion clients include Kenneth Cole and Ted Baker London, helped her hone her creative eye and social media savvy, and cemented her reputation as a fashion authority to her friends. When she found herself repeating long-winded answers about emerging trends, she launched her blog as a fashion cheat sheet for her inner circle. Oh So Glam's audience has since grown far beyond her intimate network—so much so that she now works on it full time.

On the blog, she doles out styling tips, modeling her suggestions on how to wear seasonal trends. Each look is infused with her own bohemian twist (despite her Connecticut address, DeFilippo’s outfits just have that effortlessly cool, West Coast spirit). Off-the-shoulder blouses, crocheted rompers and fringe-trimmed bags make regular appearances on Oh So Glam. She also aims to inspire fellow bloggers with posts on taking her blog from a hobby to an independent business.

Just in time for wedding season, DeFilippo has been giving her two cents on attire for guests and fellow brides-to-be. Whether she’s posting pics of the bittersweet-red maxi-dress she wore to her friend’s Big Day or the lacy, all-white number she donned at her own bridal shower, DeFilippo has your wedding wardrobe covered.

We caught up with the blogger to pick her stylish brain for more fashion and beauty tips, along with any other tidbits she has picked up while wedding-planning.

Why did you start your blog?

I started Oh So Glam back in 2011 as a way to document my personal style, travel and outfits—never imagining I would be able to make it my career! After a few years of some serious multi-tasking and working 9-to-5 at a digital agency, I was able to take Oh So Glam full-time!

How would you describe your style?

Overall, it’s pretty relaxed with a hint oh-boho-glam!

What is the best style advice you’ve ever received?

Dress for yourself. If you love something, wear it! I think confidence is the best accessory to making any outfit work.

What are your top 5 fashion and grooming tips?

1. Always wash your face! People who sleep with a face full of makeup boggle my mind. Let it breathe! I always make sure to go to bed with clean skin, which brings me to my next tip…

2. Moisturize! I’ll admit it has taken me a while to find the perfect face moisturizer—right now I’m using Philosophy Hope in a Jar—but making it a priority to moisturize every night before bed has changed my skin for the better. And never forget your neck.

3. I try to let my hair air-dry whenever possible to give it a break from the constant styling. I also try to go a few days between washes. Dry shampoo powder is honestly my BFF.

4. When in doubt, a great pair of distressed denim and pointed pumps go a long way.

5. Embrace your shape. I think it’s essential to know which silhouettes and shapes flatter you best. That way, you can filter out trends that just won’t work for you.

What is on your playlist?

I’m a country-music fanatic, and summer is the best time to listen to it! I can play Eric Church on repeat.

What summer beverage or cocktail do you like to cool off with?

My bridal shower brought a lot of gifts, including some copper mugs that I’ve been making Moscow Mules in! It’s the perfect summer drink, cold and refreshing!

What’s been the most fun part of wedding-planning so far?

Picking out my wedding dress was one of those moments I will never forget. I wanted to keep the experience intimate, so it was only my mom and I, and the first dress I tried on ended up being The One! When you know, you know.

Why did you choose the Vince Camuto Rae Cross Body Bag?

I chose this bag because of one major detail: FRINGE! It’ll add the perfect touch of boho to a lot of summer looks and the cross-body style makes it perfect for concerts, shopping and travel! My middle name is also Rae, so it’s almost like it was made for me!
