Meet Mara Ferriera of M Loves M

175-BLOG_ARTICLE-HERO.jpg

Mara Ferriera began her blog M Loves M in 2009 as a creative avenue outside her day-to-day work as a lawyer. Available to the public, Mara’s blog was written with only one person in mind: her then-long distance boyfriend Matthew. The aptly named M Loves M blog was a digital meeting ground, a place for Mara to share her life’s happenings and latest inspiration—a place for the couple to feel close over the miles.

Now, Mara and Matthew are married—and recently celebrated their two-year anniversary. As their relationship progressed, M Loves M meanwhile grew to include more of Mara’s personal style posts atop her usual rotation of beauty, cooking, and home entertaining posts.

We spoke with Mara to learn more about married life on the West Coast including how Matthew popped the question and her can’t-miss date-night restaurants.

Tell The Crest a little about your readers.

My readers range from girls in high school to women in their 50s and 60s. The majority of my readers are in their 20s and 30s but I think because of my beauty and recipe posts, I attract other ages as well. I had a woman e-mail me saying she was making my pumpkin spice cake recipe for her grandchildren. Pretty cute!

Do your LA roots influence your style?

Yes definitely! LA has a carefree sense of dressing that's hard to not incorporate daily. I like to be comfortable but also classic. When I go out though I love to dress up! If I get an opportunity to dress up, I take it! It's always better to be overdressed than underdressed, in my opinion!

What are your must-see landmarks in Los Angeles?

You have to go to the beach! West Coast beaches are beautiful, especially at sunset. I love going to happy hour in Malibu for that very reason! It's also fun to go shopping! There are so many great stores in Beverly Hills and West Hollywood. People come from all over to shop here, and you'll know why!

What is your favorite local restaurant?

SUGARFISH by sushi nozawa has the freshest and most delicious sushi. And you can't go wrong with innovative restaurants like A.O.C. Wine Bar or Baco Mercat. My newest favorite restaurant is République! Everything I've had was so delicious!

How did Matthew propose to you?

Matthew proposed on a trip to San Francisco, the city where we met. It was a big surprise and I did not see it coming! You can read my version here and his version here! Right before we got married he surprised me again with a book of photos from a photographer he hired to capture our proposal. I was blown away! Best gift ever!

What tips can you share with other brides to be?

Don't get too stressed out! Remember it's just one day. The most important thing is the marriage, not the wedding.

What has been the best part of married life thus far?

Being able to see your best friend every single day. We see each other at our best and our worst, but we're there through it all. There's a realness to marriage that can be a little scary but it's so wonderful and worth it!

What is your favorite winter warm-up beverage?

Hot cocoa with whipped cream! It's the best!

Why did you choose this Vince Camuto Animal Centerfold Dress?

I love this leopard dress from Vince Camuto. It's a dress that I can see myself wearing often. It would be a great choice for the office with a black blazer, but would also look so cute with a longer cardigan and boots. I love clothing that you can dress up or down!
