Meet Cheralee Lyle of Miss Lyle Style

Cheralee Lyle began her blog Miss Lyle Style after moving from Cape Town, South Africa to the States in 2011.

The international leap shook up Cheralee’s personal style—which now had to include wintry garb for New York City’s and Washington D.C.’s low temperatures. The move also spurred her blogging into action. Miss Lyle Style is an inspirational log of Cheralee’s personal style, hair and makeup routines, as well as her favorite eateries. It’s no surprise her photos are always top-notch—Cheralee is also a working photographer, snapping New York Fashion Week street style pics for Elle South Africa.

We touched base with Cheralee to learn more about her beauty regimen, favorite blogger reads, and her work both in front of and behind the camera.

When did you start your blog?

I started my blog as a travel and photography diary, to share all the amazing things I discovered along the way. But it soon evolved into a more fashion-focused space after I found a passion for shooting street style and sharing my daily outfits, favorite beauty brands, and style inspiration. I started my blog as a passion project. I am so grateful to everyone who reads it, and I feel so lucky to get to collaborate with amazing brands and create content with such motivating people in the fashion industry.

Did the move from South Africa to the US influence your style choices? How? Yes, totally! The weather and seasons completely changed the way I dress and shop. I had to go shopping for my first real warm winter coat when I moved to the US. I think I am made for colder weather, as I love dressing for it. I adore sweaters, boots and scarves!

What are your top five beauty and skincare tips?

1. I try to keep the beauty products as simple and natural as possible. I love CeraVe’s skincare products. They save my skin in winter!

2. I do a monthly coconut oil hair mask that leaves my hair smoother and silkier than any other product I have ever tried.

3. On Sundays I religiously do the Kiehl’s Rare Earth Deep Pore Cleansing Masque to start my new week feeling fresh.

4. As for make up, one of my all-time favorite brands is Too Faced. Their bronzer, blush, natural eye shadow palette, and brow pencil are all amazing. Plus the packaging is always adorable and retro!

5. And lastly, the golden rule: sunscreen everyday!! I mean it!

How did you learn about photography?

Both of my parents are in the film industry so I grew up in the studio on all different types of crazy film sets and photo shoots. I was introduced to cameras and fell in love with taking photos as soon as I got my first camera for my 9th birthday. I have been shooting street style since I moved to London in 2009, I had to document the crazy and creative personal style I was seeing for the first time.

Which blogs or online magazines do you browse everyday?

Miss Moss for a daily dose of design, décor and photography inspiration and then I love browsing Betty, The Fashionably Broke; and Peace Love Shea for some cute outfit ideas.

Why did you choose the Vince Camuto Winta bootie?

I fell for the Vince Camuto Winta booties the moment I saw them. I have been on the hunt for a cute but tough looking flat boot to wear in the cold months. I love the unique details and the quilting. And dark metal hardware is just too cool.

I have been wearing them non-stop—I am wearing them right now actually! I have been rocking them during the day with tights and an oversized comfy sweater dress. And, at night, I pair them with some grey skinnies, a sheer black blouse, and some layered gold necklaces, complete with a black leather cross body to match the booties. The chunky heel and luxe detailing makes them the perfect day to night boot.

And did I mention they are SUPER comfortable??
